Review
In this profoundly erudite and eloquent book is a startling ancient secret that will forever alter the way we think about the origins of western civilization.” Pir Zia Inayat KhanThe rich and dense scholarship in this book is admirable, nay incredible, with worldwide scope. Scholarly discussion depends on evidenceof which A Story Waiting to Pierce You offers the most surprising riches combined with overwhelming expertise.” Walter Burkert, author, Greek Religion and Babylon, Memphis, Persepolis"The book's controversial claims are based on impeccable scholarship and thus should be taken seriously. Highly recommended." Choice (April 2011)Let this book wake you up into new sunlight. It is not just a book, and so to be read with the mind. Peter Kingsley’s voice is a friend, and also a way of seeing, of remembering essence, of walking in a great circle around an island you have always loved, but only rarely visited.” Coleman Barks, translator of RumiBy challenging some of our most fundamental perceptions of early European history, Peter Kingsley pushes out the horizon of the modern world and opens a new chapter in our appreciation of European-Asian relations. His innovative research into the spiritual and intellectual debt of ancient Greece to Inner Asia not only broadens our understanding of the past, but also helps us to understand better who we are today.” Jack Weatherford, author, Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern WorldA blazingly alive work of scholarship and spiritual insight” Jacob Needleman, author, What is God? and The Heart of PhilosophyPiercing. Peter Kingsley is a master of adamantine prose and peerless scholarship. His work is truly worthy of that overworked term wisdom. And he is a master stylist: he turns you upside down and inside out without your knowing it is happening. This book will inspire, delight and enlighten many but will also challenge others because it is a mirror that reflects our most stubborn prejudices about the origins of our most sacrosanct cultural beliefs. And for that, Peter Kingsley deserves the highest praise.” Larry Dossey, M.D., author, Reinventing Medicine and The Power of PremonitionsThis is a small book. You can read it in an hour. I suggest that you read it several times and really get the golden idea at its core. Then bring that idea to everything you doevery decision, every choice, every plan, every interpretation. Live by an entirely different guidance. Walk like you’ve never walked before.” Thomas Moore, author, Care of the Soul and The Re-enchantment of Everyday Life

This books story carries the archetypical image of a high burning camp fire, around which children, and elders sit and tell each other stories and myths of heroes. Only in this case the story is our history. And the heroes both built and destroyed civilizations. For any interested in the esoteric traditions around the world, both the east and west, this book really stands out, along with Peter Kinglsley’s other great works.
Peter Kingsley is an extraordinary author and philosopher. I was introduced to his work when, as an empty nester with GI benefits, I decided to return to university to study philosophy (spring 2010). My studies included a course in ancient philosophy, and it was that professor who introduced me to Peter Kingsley. I was immediately struck with Kingsley's fresh ideas and approach to the ancients and how there is clear application to the "western" cultural perspectives we have now. Since that time, I have been able to finish two of his works, "Reality", and more recently "A Story Waiting to Pierce You".As you read them, it's clear that he wants the stories to be about the reader. If you really focus on the story behind the story, you begin to understand that Kingsley is trying to draw the reader into a certain awareness. Many of today's outstanding authors, such as Deepock Chopra, teach us to be aware of our own individual truth. While Kingsley's works do not conflict with Chopra (et al), his intent appears to bring about a more macro awareness of western culture. Where is that awareness? "And the point of life is to follow that presence wherever it leads; never to let it out of your sight; not to look aside even for a moment to the right or left; and once you hold it in your hand or inside your body, never to let it go until the time is right."Having served almost 28 years in the US armed services, I have seen courage. Likewise, I see in Kingsley a very courageous person who is trying urgently to plant some seeds, to graft some new growth in us, to get us to be aware of the truth of our so-called western "reality". Once there, we might even begin to practice that awareness, just as the ancients did.To borrow from Barry Long, rational (and irrational) logic dances around the question of "Who am I?" while true logic gets tothe heart of the question. It appears to me that Peter Kingsley is not only asking us to examine that question, but ultimately to ask "Who are We?".
Ok read... fun little book, and easy to read. Not sure I can give it more than 3 stars simply because those attracted to its message will have come to it for a purpose of sorts. It is pleasant and even teases to spark the imagination, but I would need something... else. It points, ha, to something but leaves us in the end wanting more.
This book is a wonderful and authoritative explanation of how ancient Greek thought was heavily influenced by thinkers from Tibet and Mongolia. I loved it.
Kingsley traces in a fascinating way the possible factual Central Asian background to the strange arrival in sixth century Greece of Abaris and his arrow. It should change perceptions of the degree of inter-communication between the shamanistic culture of the Avars and the Greek world
This work continues Peter Kingsley's exciting quest. I found it so stinulating that I ordered one of his cd's, Christ, the Forgotten Song. This man is deep! He just might transform your life! And he is not without humor, thank God. At several points during the two-part cd I was moved to tears. The book also is presented in two parts, the story/song/poem, and the footnotes. Scanning through the footnotes made me want to reread the story. It is obvious that the author has a great drive toward truth. He is truly a prophet for our time and I am happy that he has found a following.
An interesting history of how the ancient understanding of consciousness made its way around the world.
Awesomely good, synchronistic as I read it when preparing my arrow for my pipe ceremony. Cheers Peter Kingsley, again brilliant shamanic validation.
