Shannon Anderson is the Michael and Joelle Hurlston Presidential Chair and professor of management at the University of California-Davis. Previously she taught at Rice University, the University of Melbourne, and the University ofMichigan. She received her PhD from Harvard University and a BSE from Princeton University. Shannon has taught undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students a variety of courses on cost accounting, cost management, and management control. "New" book but it didn't include the access code.
I bought this product used, it came in time, and I'm an Accounting major so I get to use this for more than just one class, which is really nice. I personally like having hard-cover copies of my textbooks, so this was a good buy for me.
i cannot recommend getting the kindle version of this book. Renting it for the semester set me back about $90. Books like this open like a PDF which makes it awkward to read for an extended period. Also, it can only be opened on the Kindle. Opening the book with your Kindle browser extension is not allowed for some reason. The second reason I don't like it is it doesn't come with access to Connect. If you've never heard of it it's website where your assignments and tests are. New books come with a code otherwise you can buy a code online. Not having access to Connect was not a surprise but the price to buy it was. Basic access was about $90. If you want access to the eBook too the total comes to $150. I would have been no better for buying an actual book which came with the Connect code.
If one is considering a career in accounting this book is a must. It literally takes you from the very basics of accounting to corporate level of accounting. Each chapter is full of incredible colorful pictures, diagrams, and tons of examples and summaries. Furthermore, the end of the chapter questions are a gold mine to solidify the actual chapter learning. I highly recommend this book or anyone of its editions (not much changes from one edition to another).
I purchased this textbook in late 2009 to study Cost Accounting on my own before I took the actual class. I wanted to learn it just for my own knowledge. I am quite happy with this book and how it goes through example after example, and provides the big picture. This was only $4.00 so an awesome price since textbooks are way overpriced these days.I learned a lot from this older version than spending a whopping $250 on a newer version with all the "bells and whistles". If you want to save money I suggest going with the older version of the textbook which you can usually get for under $10 on Amazon Marketplace. This is a whole lot better than the new 2013 tax book I just reviewed, for sure! :)
I ordered this book for my class in the US and I received an international copy. Initially, I was upset until I realized that this book is literally the exact same--only paper back and much cheaper.
Overall it was okay... Rating 3 stars because it arrived damaged slightly...Also it's ridiculous this book is this expensive and it's not even bound. I only bought this book because it's required. I wasn't about to spend another 50 bucks for binding.
The text itself is not bad. It is actually a pretty good accounting text book. The web based features are not developed enough. The WileyPLUS website has some issues with Chrome, and the way they have the electronic version of this book set up is very poor (note, the electronic version is online through the WileyPLUS website).
