I don't know The Frog Prince story all that well. My mother never read it to me as a child, choosing instead to put me to bed with the words of Stephen King.Just kidding!I remember the Muppets doing the story when I was about 5, with a pretty witch and a crystal ball on a stick. Then the witch was ugly and the frog was a guy - That's it. I also thought the girl hurled the frog at the wall, but that didn't happen here. Obviously the story didn't make that much of an impression on me. So the story is pretty new for me.Apparently it's a bit new to the fairy tale as well, because here the prince chooses to disguise himself as the frog. That hasn't been done before.Jenni James writes amazing books Her re-telling of Beauty and the Beast is way up there in my mind as one of the best. Here's what does it for me:The characters are easy to believe and like, even in a relatively short book. You feel you know them in a short space of words. But - the dialogue is out-of-the-ballmark great. It's so witty. And English. Even when the characters or Ms. James aren't. The dialogue makes the books so much fun. I think Jenni James could write for film or TV.I really loved it how Blyth's mother and brothers took it as perfectly normal for a frog to talk. And drink tea (they really are more coffee-oriented. I read that on the internet so it must be true).I also loved that she almost kissed him WAY before he had a chance to get to know her and how he got himself out of that one.I will say that, after reading this book, I do not want a frog as a pet. No, I would be all pissed off that it didn't talk and it would just stick that frog tongue in the air all the time. But maybe it would come in handy if we got flies. However, even if we don't get a frog or flies I will definitely still be buying Jenni James' books>

I liked a lot about this story, but I just didn't connect.1) Prince hates his betrothed, but as soon as he sees her, he starts having second thoughts about his hatred just because she's pretty Spare me.2) Prince, as frog, corrects mistakes he made as man so we see him start caring and getting to know and serving (kindof), but Princess never gets to know the Prince the way she wants to get known. She just likes that he's funny. She doesn't ask about his likes/dislikes, etc.3) No one has a problem with an enchanted prince hopping around the Princess' chamber? Even while she's sleeping? Um, he can't take advantage of the situation, sure, but he still had eyes.4) It's a pretty clean story, which I like, but then it ends with passionate kissing. So I'm confused, is this book intended for adults? I was thinking it was a nice story I could feel good about giving my little girl to read to understand about not judging people and getting to know them, but then there was just that fluffy romantic stuff/stuff more in the adult line of things that make me not give it to my child. But most adults aren't going to be interested in such a simple story. One that has minimal conflict and easy resolution. So while I wanted to like it, given it's semi-confused nature it's rather forgettable. Too bad.

When I was just a little girl, I never got the chance to read fairytale books. All I could remember is that I only got the chance to read some nursery rhymes, well, I guess the reason behind that was because we only have bible story books available in our home. Our family isn't really known to keep a book, unless you consider those tagalog romance books my aunt been keeping when she was still in College, haha.I have been subscribing to bookbub for quite a while now and was notified that this story was free to purchase on kindle. With the positive reviews about this books on goodreads and here in amazon and of those catchy cover, this story just won me over. I was so excited, that's why I decided to read it right after downloading it..I've never read fairytale themed stories before so it didn't surprised me on the words this book used and how the sentences were constructed. I was still adjusting with the story until I've got the gripped on it when I reached the third page. After that part, everything just seems so entertaining. I love the idea of starting this story with those quite funny or should I say hilarious conversation between the Prince and his mother. Deym, that instance, I know this story wouldn't give me a hard time finishing it. And woolah! I just finished it in just one sitting.I'm not really that familiar with The Frog Prince by the Brothers Grimm, but I know that the frog will transform into a Prince once the Princess kiss him. Like other fairytale stories, this book is kinda cliche. Isn't really my liking but it entertained me. I love the goofiness of the main characters especially the Queens, lol.The main thing that I didn't like about this story was the conflict part. It was kinda questionable and it sounded a bit corny for my taste. But overall, this book is still a good read.

I bought this for my teenage granddaughter who is giving a lot of thought to eating, "not" eating, healthy eating. She loves this book, has highlighted it all over the place and is into trying the recipes for herself and her friends. Seems to have helped a great deal.

This book is written at a very low reading level, making it a breeze for anyone ages 10 and up to read. I wish it didn't say weight loss in the title, but then again that may be what attracts our young readers. None of the ideas in here are novel but as American schools only spend an average of three hours a year on nutrition education then they might be novel to a teen. I think it is important for the parents to read this book too. Not because I don't think they know the information, but because it is important for the parent to be on the same page with nutrition for the child to be successful. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that as a registered dietition, I did not 100% agree with the dietary recommendations! like saying 1 diet soda a day is ok. Wrong! But most of the information is good.

Teens, schmeens....I bought this for myself at age 73. It is clear, concise and makes sense. I think it rates 5-stars if you take the time to read it and work with it. It's good.

Lots of great information about making healthy choices. I agree with other reviews in that I wish it didn't focus on weight loss. That's not the best way to approach the issue with teens who are overweight. Focus should be on healthy living and healthy choices.

Many great points to this book. Take away the 'lose weight' part & it would be perfect! Focus on health rather than the scale.

With childhood and adolescent obesity regularly in the headlines and attracting much angst in the public health community, it's the right time to see a book geared towards healthy eating and healthy weight loss for teens. Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, Lisa Stollman, MA, RD, CDE, CDN, has written The Teen Eating Manifesto: The Ten Essential Steps to Losing Weight, Looking Great and Getting Healthy, to help guide the group of individuals tagged by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the only generation to date expected to have a shorter lifespan than that of their parents. The Teen Eating Manifesto is a guidebook which is divided into three distinct segments. The book begins with an introduction that focuses on helping the teen assess their readiness to change. Then, beginning with chapter one Stollman gives us the first glimpse of her teen-friendly writing style and voice. She does not force change, but rather offers up the facts about why making changes to, yes, lose weight, look great and get healthy, is beneficial even to teens. She proceeds to divide her key points into ten easy-to-achieve, yet essential steps.Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded healthy lifestyle, The Teen Eating Manifesto dedicates an entire chapter to the `why' behind the importance of exercise. Within Stollman's nutrition steps, she also encourages teens to foster healthy relationships. This includes the advice, which Stollman backs up with scientific studies, to eat meals with their families. The Teen Eating Manifesto prompts teens to engage in trial and error approaches as they learn to get in tune with their bodies and take on new habits. Stollman's teen-friendly writing engages readers by guiding them through situational exercises. She introduces the concept of mindful eating and provides strategies to curtail and limit emotional eating. Stollman encourages teens to lose the dieting mentality along with a few pounds. The book plays to this generation's desire for instant gratification with actions readers can take to quickly put healthy habits into action. With her lists of quick actions, she covers everything from exercise to eating. Stollman also uses tables successfully to make information easy to glean at a glance. The tables which compare food and beverage choices are particularly approachable. Technology loving teens (aren't they all?) will enjoy the chapter on the variety of Apps they can use as they learn to implement healthy habits.Stollman, a dietitian with many years of expertise under her belt (and years raising children), clearly understands the teen mindset and her book gives them tools they will use. The final sections of The Teen Eating Manifesto encourage teens to adopt healthy habits that will last them for a life time including learning to cook and menu planning skills. This easy and usable book is packed with science which lays the groundwork to help teens increase their nutrition knowledge. Stollman then does a masterful translating the science into practical tips and tactics teens can apply. The Teen Eating Manifesto is surely one that's worth giving to the teens in your life.

I'm looking for EXACTLY this book for a boy who is teased and called chubby. I wish the title called it a guide to feeling great and having more energy! The weight loss is a side effect of eating healthy and moving, the real payoff is a kid that feels good and has energy and confidence.

I think the author has a ton of really great info in there that everyone should know! The recipes at the end were pretty cool and didn't seem too hard- I actually think I might try out the vegetarian chili soon! And I also really appreciated that she had a whole section on vegetarian and vegan foods because a lot of people in that age group (myself included) are definitely trying to do something like that, so it was cool to see a whole section dedicated on that. I think that this may be a great resource for schools to have in counselors office's or nurse's clinics. I feel like teenagers might suck at thinking about their health, so it may be hard to get teens to want to read this, but if they're talking to their counselor or their nurse about it, the nurse could suggest a chapter that they could read super quick because the chapters are pretty manageable.

Inca: DISCOVER THE CULTURE AND GEOGRAPHY OF A LOST CIVILIZATION WITH 25 PROJECTS (Build It Yourself)

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-Students who have no prior knowledge of the Inca will learn much about this civilization in this lively volume that's chock-full of facts about such topics as religion, festivals and food, clothing and textiles, architecture, and the Spanish conquest. The Inca mastered their difficult Andean environment and handily overtook all would-be rivals, yet their empire flourished for only a few centuries. This title clearly explains how they accomplished all that they did-and why they ultimately fell into ruin. Overall, the activities aren't very interesting, useful, or particularly illustrative of the culture, customs, or traditions, and they aren't applicable to other studies. Children will likely most appreciate the activities relating to food and beverages. As such, this book should be considered an additional purchase.-Carol Goldman, Queens Library, NYα(c) Copyright 2013. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Review

Dr. Tamara L. Bray, Professor of Anthropology, Wayne State University“This book provides a fun and well-illustrated introduction to the Inca and the Andean region of South America that they ruled. Filled with facts about the Inca empire, cultural adaptations in the Andes, the local environment, high-altitude agriculture and more, the book takes what we know from archaeology and ethnohistory and communicates it in a way designed to stimulate comparison between our present-day culture and that of an ancient people from a distant time and place.”Michael A. Malpass, Charles A. Dana Professor in the Social Sciences, Professor of Anthropology, Ithaca College“This detailed and up-to-date book about the Incas gives a real sense of what the Incas were like, and how they were able to create such a large empire in so short a time. The activities are fun and exciting. They should provide hours of stimulating activity for students. I highly recommend this book.”

This book was comprehensive in it's description of the Inca culture. It was probably more detailed than my daughter required for her 5th grade report but that is not a bad thing. Some of the activities included in the book are kind of boring and not that exciting for a kid.

Imaigne kids learning abut a LOST CIVILIZATION!!What could be more exciting for the imagination and the learning of history.Being abe to create projects to show different aspects of the way these people adapted to their particular circumstances willl give kids the great message about human ingenuity and determination.A great concept and a great job.

A thorough age appropriate descriptive text with hands on activities and glossary included in the book. It gives students valuable information about the development of an important people.

This book was obviously not written by psychology experts, probably not even by psychology students. It looks like some random people read Intro to Psychology and Intro to Statistics textbooks, and were subsequently qualified by Kaplan to write this book.Frankly, the writing is poor. Good study books should be, in this order, Correct, Clear, Concise. In other words, the information should be right, it should be easy to understand, and it should focus only on the important information, leaving out irrelevancies.Sometimes the book hits the mark, but at other times it is incorrect, unclear, and distracted. For that reason, when I was ready to take the psychology subject test, I used the table of contents from this book as a list of materials to study, but referred back to my actual college textbooks to review the materials. The textbooks virtually always explained things better.I give the book 2 stars for having a useful table of contents.

I used both Kaplan and Princeton for preparation. Overall, I would say both reviews are pretty good: Kaplan is more in-depth, and Princeton is more comprehensive. However, both books didn't cover everything tested in the GRE Psych, and I feel like the real exam tests in more details about the social psych. Also, even though I like the practice exams in the book, they are nothing like the real exam (maybe I over-exaggerated a little bit, maybe 20-30% similarity?). The most helpful exam is the one published by the ETS!One big flaw: neither covers the DSM-5. Luckily, the only major change is the naming system and the diagnostic class (this is only in terms of the GRE Psych; of course that DSM-5 changed A LOT from DSM-IV-TR, but the GRE Psych won't cover that much detail). Even though there is not a review book that covers DSM-5, you can easily get the basic info online (wikipedia is really helpful lol).Btw, I just took my GRE Psych yesterday, and I feel like the test is really not that hard as long as you have studied for it, and a lot of the questions could be answered based on a common sense. So good luck everyone!

This is a really great book. My favorite part is the practice tests, and that the answer key not only tells you the correct response but explains why it is correct and why the others are incorrect. I found these tests extremely valuable. The reason for the 4 stars and the title for my review is because this book is outdated based on the fact that it covers DSM-IV. The psych GRE is now based on the DSM-V. I just ignored parts in this book that asked diagnostic questions, and read the DSM-V on my own. I believe Kaplan is coming out with the new version in August that covers the V, but I am taking the test this month so this was my only option. (I did not find a single psych GRE study guide that covered the V.)

Much of the information in this book is helpful but it fails to take into consideration the changes from DSM-V. It obviously couldn't have done that, considering when it was written. What I don't understand is why an organization using the Kaplan name would fail to come out with a new edition. It was known what the changes were likely to be before the 2013 introduction, so although they might have been jumping the gun trying for a 2013 release, it's almost 2015 and their one book on the subject is out of date.

I am not sure why there negative reviews for this book. Maybe you guys shouldn't wait until the night before to study. It took me two full weeks to get through all of the material in this book. I went through once and outlined everything in Word. Then I went through my outline and made flashcards. I originally planned on also doing the same thing with Princeton Review's guide, but I didn't have time. Judging by my score, that really wasn't necessary. I scored 750, 92nd percentile. There is A LOT of material in this book, so give yourself plenty of time to go through all the material. Google anything you don't understand and put it into your own words. Good luck!

Great GRE study guide, Social Psych section in particular. Though wish included more practice questions :-/ In contrast to previous reviews here, The combination of this book and intro to Psych book (Psychology 8th edition) didn't work out well for me. Though the Psych book was a good read within it self, I didn't feel it was helpful for the test. You need to study the material well in advance, by reading through any intro to psych book or even read the review in this book well in advance so that you UNDERSTAND the material, aside from remembering names and terms. Then get your hands on as many practice questions as you can. From this book in particular, but also from any other book (the only thing is STAY AWAY FROM BARRON'S GRE!!! It is overwhelming with unnecessary material and questions - waist of time) Good Luck Studying!!!

I got the score I wanted (740, 90th percentile) but I also used a flashcard program and I teach introductory psychology so I know I can't give full credit to the prep book. I would have given it four stars, but as others have said, the typos are atrocious! After a while it sort of became a game to find how many edits I could make in each chapter. I am amazed they let it leave the editors desk in such poor shape. I haven't tried any other books, but until they come out with a new addition I would steer clear of this one.

I found this book much less helpful than I expected. I used Kaplan books to prepare for the GRE General Test, and I thought they were great. This book was riddled with typos and errors, even listing conflicting answers to their practice tests. Some information is out of date, some of it is presented in a misleadingly simple way, and some of it is literally incorrect. I would highly recommend that you look into other options before purchasing this book. It may serve as a good review tool, but only if you fact check and read carefully. Moreover, if you have not yet taken one of the courses that a section in this book covers, you need to seek other material, as this does not provide the depth of specificity that you would need.
