Plain and simply put, if you golf, you should have this little book on your shelf. No matter where you're at in the pursuit of a good walk spoiled, there's a lifetime of good advise distilled into these pages.

I meet a guy who had one of the last single memberships at the FedX Cup Course in Atlanta while hiking in NC. He recommended Harvey Penick's book to me. I started playing when I was in my early 60s, and as most golfers do I have good and bad days. I have had lessons by a good golf pro, even bought new irons. I improved, but not as much as I thought. This book helped take what my golf teacher taught me and helped me get my head more in the game. The book goes over the basics like holding the club, hand position, swing. But takes you into unusual areas like in your mind swing a bucket of water (you'll have to read the page or two this is on to get the just), but this has helped me with my new (golf pro) grip and the rithium of the swing. How to take aim and why you should do it with each swing or stroke. Putting, look at the green the slop, grass, three practice swings (I a more comfortable with two) and believe or even see the ball going in the hole before you strike it. Don't try to have the ball go too much past the hole when putting. It is better to have the ball stop just after the hole (this has helped me sink at least 4 or 5 extra putts on 18 holes. Because if your ball is just loosing momentum at the hole, a lipped put will go in (I do it now quite a few times playing 18), where a little faster put will rim out. This takes practice because of ripped greens or sloped greens, I still go for a little speed to take out the ball drift, which I usually pay for in a longer second shot. Another key point which I am just starting to do, and it is paying off. I take a few clubs after play slows down in the evening (I am lucky enough to have my home back up to the course). I take a 6 iron, 9 iron, wedge and a putter. Play one ball all the way to the green. Then I hit it back to the tee box and start back to the green again. This has got me use to and better with my swing, irons and short game. Harvey says only practice this way with one ball. Never any more and go all the way to the green. I hit my first ball with the six iron, just in front of the tee box. I usually hit 4 to 5 irons to get to the green (it is a par 5) depending on my shots, putt out. Put the ball in front of the green and hit back to the tee box. This really has improved my short game and putting. Get and read this book, there is a lot more in it that may help you.

Always great to read what the "masters" have to say about golf and the golf swing! I enjoyed reading this book very much and picked up a few pointers along the way. Mr. Penick tends to repeat himself from time to time throughout the book. And, for that reason I gave it 4, instead of 5, stars. Nonetheless, I highly recommend every serious golfer to thoughtfully read this book. Modern swing theory probably outdates some of the swing fundamentals taught by Mr. Penick, but he includes so many common sense tips that probably get lost in the mental game of golf.

I heard about this book while watching a Golf Tournament in Texas on my TV. It was very interesting and since I am a Novice at Golf I had to get it. I have read alot of other Golf instructional books and watched videos but when I got this book it was what I hoped for. I read about slicing to start with and He explains it so easy .. I am glad I got this Jewel. Thanks for having it available. It is pocket size in shape and HUGE in knowledge.

Good book, some of his comments have since been disproved with new ball flight laws or golf science, but generally, he has some great advice. I found 3 pages that really stuck out to me that have helped my game. A big thing he mentioned was not following the clubhead on your practice swings. I've definitely developed a poor habit of that and have since been working to fix it. I liked the snippets of concepts/lessons, it kept it interesting to me. The book started out great and became less appealing towards the end when he moved from lessons/golf concepts to more stories about his students.

Harvey straightened out my swing almost immediately. A colleague recommended his book and I was too snobby at first to look at it because of the title. When I overcame my aesthetic distaste for the title I read a few paragraphs and found I could not put the book down. Harvey has a way of talking that is hypnotic and compelling (no fancy words here and no gimmicks). His words came alive on each page and made sense even to someone who has been golfing for 62 years (often erratically). I found him to be a great teacher whose wisdom and no nonsense approach to teaching gave me the courage to try new things, change my grip and stay with the program..My irons are 100% better and the loft of my short irons has improved dramatically. Harvey has no intention of teaching a one size fits all swing and tailors his observations to each golfer's body and mind and makes simple alignments to one's grip or swing that often leads to unexpected perfection. There is no perfect swing to emulate but there is an imperfect self to overcome in order to hit the golf ball squarely. Harvey provides great golf tools even for the most seasoned golfers and professionals. He is also a wise man whose wisdom rests in its simplicity and respect for playing fairly and honestly. After reading his book I came to the conclusion that I had to add about 1-5 strokes to every round from many of my past scorecards (for conceding short putts). Harvey's comments to excited parents who were proud of their son's first birdie, but admitted that he did not putt out the gimme, was direct as direct can be. He said something like "Your son has still not birdied a hole. He did not putt it in." I recalled those words the other day when I had a four inch putt for a birdie, stood over the ball and putted it in. The "Little Red Book" is a gem. Harvey knows when not to change anything and say very little and cause great change. I was reminded of a saying of Alfred North Whitehead whose words are inscribed on the walls of a library at Columbia University in NY, "Philosophy is the search for the obvious." Harvey must have read Whitehead, I concluded. Two geniuses I thought. The book is a great read. Wish he were alive to play a round with him. LM Lothstein

How can this book be sold? Errors and typos in a book that is supposed to help you build your math ability is counterproductive. How does this have 4 stars overall??

This book has a lot of good qualities - it’s concise, and it does a tremendous amount of examples. HUGE COMPLAINT: there are literally hundreds of typos and other such errors throughout. There must have been very little proofreading done by a trained mathematician, otherwise this would have never gone to press. Unfortunately this is pretty typical of Schaum’s, but this one is especially bad. My advice is to be very, very careful if you choose to purchase this reference.

Of the dozens of textbooks I've used over the years, this one has the most mistakes per page, by far. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of typos, in formulas, questions and solutions. If you don't have a working knowledge of the subject material, this book will leave you dazed and confused. In addition to the typos, the book is extremely terse in its explanations of the material. It is not a helpful guide and the problems are too riddled with mistakes to be helpful.

This book is the perfect example of how NOT to teach math. It actually makes me angry in a way, as it was the book I used for a class I needed to do well in, and instead of helping, it made things harder. Having experienced the concepts taught in a far superior way now, it feels downright irresponsible to write a textbook in such a lazy, unhelpful manner. Even concepts I came in understanding, like Mean Value Theorem - something at it's heart simple enough to teach to a child - are presented in a way that would be incredibly difficult for anyone new to the concept to understand. This is a textbook, and a quick-understanding one at that. Why write it that way? Also, as others have said, there are a ridiculous amount of errors in here. Almost on every page. I dunno what accomplishments the authors have in the field of pure math, but they should give up on teaching, they suck at it.

Very good book.Thank you

I purchased this item in order to review material that I had studied years ago in college. The topics are covered very well and deserve five stars. However, there are an unbelievable number of typographical errors on almost every page in this edition. This can only be due to very poor editing. These errors are very annoying to someone, like me, who is already familiar with the material. They must be very confusing to someone who is trying to learn this material for the first time.

If you wanna be masters in any specific course that is listed in Schaum's Outline just by these books. Containing a lots of numerical and solved problems make this series best.

A nice summary of all the important results of Calculus with good set of exercise. But there is simply too many typos. Cannot imagine a book with this many typos can be sold. If you write an errata for this book that will be another book. So this book is not suitable for first time learners. If you know the stuff already and have the tolerance for typos then this would be a good summary of all the important results.

I literally have read Every Singl Book about July Carter and Absolutely Loved Ever Single Book!! Thanks for the Good Read Mara.....You can write a trilogy about July, Beck and college.......then write a trilogy about Martina being barn manager and juggling g her love interest of the older Delany son and then a trilogy of July and her sister Martinas folks getting back together......I would by them all and enjoy the read......Thanks Again, Martha Blake

Real characters in real-life situations make this an enjoyable series. The gritty racetrack life is the perfect backdrop for the drama and imperfections of family life.

Absolutely loved this book, read it in one day! Looking forward to me from this series and from the author.

Can't wait for the next book!

Life hasn't given July Carter an easy hand. Her mother, who has only recently come back into their lives, is making life more challenging than it needs to be. On top of that, July has a major life decision to make, which college should she go to? Should she follow her heart or her head? But at least one thing is for certain, she has Beck. He would never let her down....would he?What an emotional, roller-coaster of a ride book 2 in the Staying The Distance series turned out to be. This is more than just another horse book for pony-obsessed teenagers. This is a coming of age story. We follow July as she struggles to come to terms with her future, that suddenly doesn't seem so certain as it was once before. She discovers that her dream of having her mother back in her life is not quite what she had envisaged. And the pain she goes through when Beck decides that he isn't in the right place for a relationship with her is truely heartbreaking. I felt her pain.Dabrishus has not only created a wonderfully compelling story that kept me turning the pages, but she has also created characters that I could believe in, and dialogue that jumped off the page. Beautiful. The story is fast-paced, and it kept me turning the pages. I did not want to put this book down. I can not praise this book enough. What a fantastic addition to the series. I Highly Recommend.* I received an ARC of this book, from the author, in exchange for an honest review*

Horses, dedicated human caregivers, and a little romance/drama makes this book a winner! Ms. Dabrishus' writing makes you feel like you are up early and working hard. I especially love her descriptions of the horses and their behaviors; it's spot on. We have our own retired "Lighter" in our barn and I always wondered how he may have behaved in his former life. Now I know! My respect and admiration goes to all the workers on the backside!

All Heart is a coming of age story with complex characters and complicated horses. The book is sure to please horse crazy readers of all ages and the narrator does a lovely job giving the girl telling the story a voice."This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review."

A very enjoyable book. Just started book 3 (last book?). It's an entertaining series. I'm reading very slowly as it is my secondary book on my Kindle. But reading slowly allows me to spend more time with the characters.
